Custom Range Hood FAQ — Widths, Finishes & Shipping | Hood & Grain

Question 1

What widths are available for custom range hoods?

Accepted Answer

Hood & Grain offers four standard widths: 30", 36", 42", and 48". These cover the most common residential range and cooktop sizes. If your kitchen requires a non-standard dimension, custom sizing is available on request — simply mention your requirements when you request a quote.

Question 2

What wood finishes and veneer options are available?

Accepted Answer

We offer four wood veneer options: White Oak (light, clean grain with subtle ray fleck), Walnut (rich chocolate tones with dramatic grain), American Walnut (warm crown-cut walnut with flowing figure), and Black Oak (deep, dramatic dark oak with bold grain). All designs are also available in painted finishes: Painted White, Painted Cream, Painted Charcoal, and Painted Black.

Question 3

What is the difference between a painted finish and a natural wood veneer?

Accepted Answer

Natural wood veneer hoods showcase the authentic grain and character of the wood species — each hood is unique. Painted finishes provide a smooth, uniform appearance that integrates seamlessly with painted cabinetry. Both options are available on every design in our catalogue, and both are built to the same quality standard.

Question 4

What is the difference between 600 CFM and 750 CFM ventilation?

Accepted Answer

CFM (cubic feet per minute) measures the airflow capacity of the ventilation insert. The 600 CFM insert is ideal for standard residential ranges up to 36" wide and typical cooking volumes. The 750 CFM insert is recommended for professional-grade ranges, larger cooktops, or open-concept kitchens where more powerful extraction is needed. Both inserts are available ducted or recirculating.

Question 5

Can I order a custom size outside the standard widths?

Accepted Answer

Yes. While our four standard widths (30", 36", 42", 48") cover most kitchens, we can build to custom dimensions on request. Please include your required width, height, and projection in the comments when you submit a quote request, and our team will confirm feasibility and pricing.

Question 6

What are the installation requirements for a Hood & Grain range hood?

Accepted Answer

Our hoods are designed to be installed by a qualified contractor or experienced DIYer. You will need to provide a duct opening or recirculating kit location, electrical connection for the insert, and appropriate structural support in the cabinet above. We recommend reviewing our Safety & Installation guide before ordering. Our team is happy to answer specific installation questions when you request a quote.

Question 7

Do you ship across Canada?

Accepted Answer

Yes — Hood & Grain ships custom range hoods to all provinces and territories across Canada. We are based in Calgary, Alberta, and serve customers from British Columbia to Nova Scotia. Shipping costs and lead times are confirmed at the time of your quote.

Question 8

How do I request a quotation?

Accepted Answer

Visit any design in our Catalogue, select your preferred width, ventilation insert, and finish, then complete the Request a Quote form at the bottom of the page. Include any special dimensions or requirements in the comments field. Our team will respond within 1-2 business days with pricing and lead time.

Question 9

How long does it take to build and deliver a custom range hood?

Question 10
